Katie, a freelance video editor desperate for work, receives a high-paying offer from an anonymous employer to edit a cryptic and bizarre video. Short on cash and facing eviction, Katie happily accepts the job. The video shows torture and even murder on camera – surely just an elaborately staged fiction. But when her first job leads to even more lucrative contracts and even more disturbing snuff films, Katie’s life begins to fall apart. Strange figures in her apartment, horrific nightmares that keep her awake, and a mysterious illness that plagues her cat. It is only when Katie finally decides to quit the job that she learns how cruel her anonymous employer really is and the bloody measures she herself is prepared to take to get out of her contract.
